Go Watch “Facing Ali”
There have been some great movies & documentaries made about fighting and boxing. Some that come to mind are, “Million Dollar Baby”, “When We Were Kings”, “Raging Bull” and “Rocky.” Of course there are many more but I may have now seen the best of them all! “Facing Ali” is a documentary that interviews several great fighters who stepped in the ring with The Greatest, Muhammad Ali. Over the 100 minute movie, we learn more about one of the world’s most beloved figures through the eyes of his toughest opponents. It describes some of his personal stories while documenting some of his best fights. From his magnificent early career, through his time as an outcast then to his unfortunate last few fights where it was accepted that he should have retired. Awesome storytelling! It is well known that Ali is a hero to me and was one of the reasons I entered martial arts. Watching this film makes me respect and admire him even more. One thing I didn’t expect though was that I gained a respect and admiration for his opponents. Their stories of overcoming adversity to become champions in their own right is inspiring. The honor & love they show to boxing after all these years is also heart warming. If you get a chance, watch this movie. It’s out on DVD and you won’t be sorry!
