COACHES
Rey del Rosario - Founder, Owner, Head Coach
As of 2025, I’ve been involved in martial arts for nearly 40 years—and for the last 26 of those, I’ve had the privilege of being the owner and head coach of Westside Kickboxing. Over the years, I’ve coached Provincial and National champions, taught students from ages 5 to 65, and had the honor of working with people from all walks of life.
What do I love most? It’s simple—the people. Being surrounded by incredible students, day after day, year after year, is what keeps me going. I don’t care who you are, what you do, or where you come from. What matters to me is that you show up ready to learn, leave your ego at the door, and bring a positive, team-friendly attitude to the gym.
With students like that, I can keep doing this for another 40 years—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
May Bosaing - Coach
May still remembers her very first class at Westside in 2017 when she first fell in love with the martial arts of Muay Thai and kickboxing. Not an athlete to start and unfamiliar with the sport, she said yes to the journey and soon was spending all of her free days on the mats. May soon began competing and continues to develop her knowledge within the sport as a sparring partner, member of the fight team, and an official-in-training. She can also be found dancing and sweating on the YouTube channel workout videos, hoping to spread the Westside community vibes worldwide.
As a member of the coaching staff, May truly loves being able to give back and welcome folks into the community that has become her second home. She finds joy in helping others discover more of themselves, whether it be in newfound skills, physical abilities, or a sense of self-confidence and strength. She believes that with the right mindset and commitment to the craft, anyone can embark upon a fruitful and fulfilling martial arts journey as well.
Maaike began training at Westside in 2022 with no prior martial arts experience. As an admirer of martial arts in pop culture, she always had a desire to learn a real martial art and following the pandemic was inspired to start her training journey. After only a couple months at Westside, she fell in love with the art of Muay Thai and dove in head first. Maaike fought in her first championship in 2023 and took home gold. Maaike then joined the coaching team in early 2024 and has loved being able to give back to the community.
What Maaike likes best about coaching and helping people new to the sport is to see peoples' growth in confidence and watching them find a home in the fantastic Westside community. She finds it inspiring to help people start their own martial arts journeys and watch as they grow their skills and achieve new heights.

Michael MacIssac - Coach
Michael began training at Westside Kickboxing in 2017 and after that first class, something clicked. The intense warm-up, followed up by focused training on technique was something that got him hooked. Years later, Michael still loves the physical challenges and mental focus that are key components of the training.
In 2019 Michael began coaching beginner classes and this has been a source of great pride. Coaching beginners not only helps new students learn essential techniques, it also reinforces those techniques and concepts for the coach. Moreover, Michael finds it extremely rewarding to see students develop their skills and technique over time as they advance to intermediate and advanced classes. There are always exciting A-HA moments when a student lands a technique just right.
What Michael loves most about Westside Kickboxing? The community! The community Rey has cultivated takes care of one another, a genuinely kind and respectful group of individuals that will support you in and out of the gym.
